MLK Day Film Screening and Art Gallery

For our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, we will be hosting a film screening, forum discussion and student art gallery at one of our partner high schools in South Los Angeles, West Adams Prep High School. The film screening will either be Freedom Writers or Selma, and we will follow it with a group discussion. The art gallery will be the culmination of a three-week long art and poetry contest for the students to create art inspired by quotes from MLK, Maya Angelou and Audre Lorde. We are looking for volunteers to help curate the art gallery, serve as ushers during the film screening, facilitate the group discussion, and help coordinate other aspects of the event. Volunteers will also engage with students as they explain their artwork and talk about the importance of MLK's message of freedom and equality.
