Join us for a community service project in Long Beach to honor the MLK National Day of Service.
We will be creating an Ocean Friendly Rain Garden and Installing a Community Garden at the City of Long Beach 9th Council District Field Office (formerly Fire Station 12). Volunteers will do general landscape activities - clearing, prepping, planting, mulching, building, etc... Rain garden will help divert groundwater away from storm drains and community garden will provide food for neighborhood school farmers market. Project done in partnership with Leadership Long Beach, City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability, City of Long Beach Council District 9, Surfriders Foundation, Grant Neighborhood Association, Hamilton Neighborhood Association, and Long Beach Firefighters Association.
Check-In at 8 am. 8:30 am program start. Field office is located at 6509 Gundry Ave., Long Beach, CA 90805. Food for volunteers is generously being provided by Long Beach Firefighters Association and Council District 9.
Bring outdoor work clothes that can get dirty, work gloves, sun protection (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen) and reusable water bottle. If possible, please bring a shovel and/or rake too. Family and kid friendly, all are welcome!
