Transformational Service Project on MLK Jr. Avenue in SE DC
In partnership with Points of Light and Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS), please join Volunteer Fairfax for a service project on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in SE DC!
Volunteers will spend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at OIC/DC, a nonprofit organization that provides job skills training programs for adults and youth in the District of Columbia. The work completed by volunteers at OIC/DC will not only benefit the hundreds of clients they serve per year, but will also show appreciation to the OIC/DC staff and caseworkers who work tirelessly on behalf of their clients. Volunteers will assemble new desks that will replace outdated and broken furniture as well as spruce up the facility with a deep cleaning. Volunteers will also pack “job-readiness” kits that will be distributed to OIC/DC clients throughout the year.
Public Transportation Directions: OIC/DC is accessible by the A2 bus from the Anacostia Metro Station (1.3 mi.) or Congress Heights Metro Station (0.6 mi.). Public transportation is strongly recommended as the MLK Jr. Day Holiday parade may interfere with arrival and departure.
Parking Information: Plenty of street parking available on either Raleigh Street SE or Parkland Place SE.
What to Wear: Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that they will not mind getting dirty. There will not be a secure area to store valuables.
Project Tips/ Important Information: This event is open to individuals who have registered for it only. Please do not bring additional guests with you to the event. We will have to turn away any additional people (including children) who come to the event. This project is only open to adults 18 and older.
